PUMA X VASHTIE
06.03.2015 | PUMA
Downtown’s sweetheart, Vashtie Kola, role model for young tastemakers…whatever you prefer, we can all assent on one universal term…”The Curator of cool”.
The NY based director, filmmaker, artist, designer, creative consultant and DJ (yes that’s all one person) started making waves in downtown New York in the late 90’s, amalgamating art and style and bringing forth some unorthodox designs.
Her hunger for abnormality in design established Vashtie as a must for PUMA collaborations, and thus we teamed up with one of NY’s finest street labels.
“When PUMA reached out I was immediately interested in this collaboration as I grew up following the brand. As a child I was drawn toward skate boarding and alternative music and looked to PUMA for fashion trends. I’m excited to create this collection that pays homage to my childhood and New York’s underground scene. ” – Vashtie Kola
Vashtie takes prominent & fresh PUMA silhouettes and transforms them into what she calls “a marriage between cosmopolitan and unhinging street aesthetics.” Her style takes inspiration from the urban music and lifestyle scene of the 80s and 90s. The first collaboration with PUMA pulls on this and takes a trip down memory lane to the dawn of New York’s B Boy culture. Celebrating the era of classic PUMA styles including XR1 and R698 have be reworked in fresh new materials.
The PUMA x Vashtie collection features an aesthetically pleasing amount of black & gold treatments on the street culture inspired garments, from a black-gold sweat tee to an all gold coated hoody.
