PUMA X SELECT STORIES : THE BUSINESS OF YOUR BRAND

Select Stories: Your brand. It’s business but it’s also personal.

You can’t act brand-nu if you don’t even know what your brand is.

This month, PUMA Select is coming at you hard and we want you to take it personal. After all, we’re talking about your personal brand. Get up and close with some of the people behind your favourite brands and learn, first hand, how they built their personal brands and leveraged them to elevate and collaborate with other brands.

Let’s start with home base, shall we? Currently the Sportstyle Marketing Manager at PUMA South Africa, Hayden Manuel is the plug on what’s hot in the sneaker, fashion and urban lifestyle. Hayden’s marketing background in the advertising industry allowed him influence the direction of some big brands, while on the streets, he’s successfully built some of his own brands and is still helmed as one of Mzansi’s sneaker kings. His words hold a lot of weight, so be ready to pick up what he’s putting down.

If you’ve ever spotted anyone rocking the ”Gang” drip, then you know about Mpho Makua’s brand. The Styla Gang Original Design (S.G.O.D) founder truly believes that their clothing label bridges the gap between high-end fashion and streetwear. S.G.O.D has a flagship store in Diepkloof Zone 6 called eSGODini. Mpho and the gang already have the likes of Emtee, Nasty C and Boity Thulo rocking their brand and they recently collaborated with one of the biggest soft drink brands in the world.

Zimbabwean-born Kim Jayde’s name continues to rise up the ranks of brands to watch. Today, she fleeks on red carpets and graces our TV screens almost every day. But before Kim was a model, TV presenter and brand influencer, she relocated to South Africa to study, and obtained her Honours Degree in Social Work. Cleverly using social media to get her name out there, MTVBase South Africa spotted her and wasted no time shining light on her star. Nowadays, her name is associated with international brands like Revlon.
